Make refugee education sustainable, Unesco says

The UN’s science and education agency has asked countries to develop longer-term solutions for providing refugees with a sound education.

In a working paper on refugee education published on 11 July, Unesco calls for increased attention to the “stabilisation phase”.

“Education planning has to go beyond emergency provision and be sustained over several years,” the paper says. It calls on countries to focus on ensuring that their education systems are prepared to accommodate refugee students in the longer term.
