Next WHO director-general sets out his priorities

Tedros Adhanom has unveiled his plans for leading the World Health Organization just days after taking up the post of director-general.

In a speech to internal staff on 3 July, Tedros announced that his three areas of focus would be: to apply leadership priorities and to measure results; to deliver results, value for money, efficiency and to earn trust; and to reinforce a talented, motivated and engaged staff.

Meanwhile, he took the opportunity to confirm that global health coverage was at the centre of the challenges he aimed to improve. Expanding the WHO’s reach was Tedros’ mantra during his campaign to be elected head of the organisation.
