Female researcher awards aim for gender equality

The first winners of awards designed to promote young women in science have been unveiled, as the research world still struggles with issues of gender equality.

Ethiopia-based astrophysicist Mirjana Pović was awarded the Inspiring Science prize at the inaugural Nature Research awards in London on 30 October. The Association of Hungarian Women in Science won the first Innovating Science award.

The prizes come as women in science around the world continue to face entrenched discrimination.
