The International Council for Science has asked its members to approve the text of its proposed merger with the International Social Science Council.
The merger, which would form an interdisciplinary International Science Council, was approved in principle at a meeting of the two bodies’ members in October 2017. Members of Icsu are now being asked to vote on the text of the treaty that would join the two bodies, according to an announcement on the council’s website on 27 April. The deadline to vote is 16 May.
The treaty states that scientific progress requires greater integration of the disciplines that the two councils represent, and that the merger will seek to overcome institutional silos and barriers to interdisciplinary research.
