US higher education system retains top spot in ranking

The United States continues to lead the world in the latest ranking of nations’ higher education systems.

Universitas 21 assesses national higher education systems in their entirety, rather than ranking individual universities. In its 2018 ranking, the US, Switzerland, UK, Sweden and Denmark retain the top five positions.

The most successful national systems had “strong connectivity between institutions of higher education, government and the private sector”, said the report’s lead author, Ross Williams of the University of Melbourne, in a statement on 11 May.
