Adult learning opportunities labelled ‘shockingly unequal’

Universities must step up to drive global progress on adult education, says UNESCO expert

Universities in low and middle-income countries should put resources into training adult educators to speed up stagnating progress on global education goals, according to a co-author of a major United Nations report.

Equal opportunity for lifelong learning is one of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN in 2015 for achievement by 2030. But a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization report released on 5 December tracking progress on adult education in 159 countries shows that opportunities are still “shockingly unequal”.
