Asian competition for students ‘poses threat to UK universities’

UK institutions largely unaware of foreign efforts to attract international students, warns UCL expert

UK universities risk being blindsided by institutions in Asian nations, which are becoming increasingly attractive to international students, according to a leading higher education researcher.

International students are a critical source of funds for UK universities, accounting for 27 per cent of all tuition fee revenue in 2017-18, according to data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and making up 14 per cent of the student population.
