New record set by China with 58,990 applications in 2019, overtaking decades-long US domination
China has taken the lead in filing international patents, surpassing the United States which had held the top spot since 1978.
The country filed 58,990 applications in 2019, compared with the US’s 57,840, according to a new report from the World Intellectual Property Organization.
