Study suggests just 20 per cent of world’s population enjoys good protection of academic freedom

Four out of every five people globally live in countries that restrict academic freedom, with “recent deteriorating trends” hitting campus freedoms and institutional autonomy according to a global ranking.

Katrin Kinzelbach, a fellow at the Global Public Policy Institute in Berlin and lead author of the Academic Freedom Index, said the work showed universities were now “under pressure in many countries around the world”.
