Canada funds training in industrial R&D

Canada will provide $35 million to Mitacs, a non-profit organisation that encourages collaboration between academia and industry, the minister of state for science and technology announced this week.

The money, part of the government’s Economic Action Plan 2012, will support Mitacs’ Accelerate internship programme, which gives graduate students and postdoctoral fellows experience in industrial R&D. The additional funding is expected to support 4,800 internships over five years, beginning in 2013.
