Push for applied research harming Canada’s universities, says University of Toronto president

Canada’s emphasis on vocational education and applied research is harming the country’s research performance, outgoing University of Toronto president David Naylor has said.

In an address to the Empire Club of Canada, Naylor identified two “zombie ideas”, which he said were “persistent and infectious pieces of misinformation… that shouldn’t be alive but just won’t die”.
