Brazil’s science minister proposes taskforce to save budget

Brazil’s science minister Gilberto Kassab has proposed to launch a taskforce to fight major cuts to the government’s science budget.

Kassab said he would form a taskforce that would work with Brazilian scientists to legislate against cuts to two major parts of the science budget—the National Scientific and Technological Development Fund (FNDCT) and the Fund of Universalization of Telecommunications Services (Fust).

He was speaking at a meeting of the coordinators of the six thematic commissions of the national council for scientific and technological development on 1 June.
