Chilean researchers call for action against brain drain

Chile must create more posts for researchers in government and industry, the Chilean Association of Researchers (Ices) has urged.

It is not easy for Chilean researchers who have trained abroad to return home, a meeting of Ices members in Bern, Switzerland, concluded on 22 September.

There are few job opportunities for PhD graduates outside of the Chilean Academy of Sciences, according to a report from the meeting by Lorenzo Reyes on the Chilean media website Redbionova. Reyes, a Chilean national, is a postdoctoral engineering researcher based at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland.
