A $100-million federal project to map the seas of northern British Colombia is being described by the Green Party of Canada as a government subsidy of the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline project.
“Documents obtained from Environment Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada reveal that at a time when core science is being cut across the government of Canada, tax dollars are being spent to do Enbridge’s homework for them,” said Andrew Weaver, a Green party member of the BC legislature.
Northern Gateway is a pipeline that has been proposed by the energy company Enbridge to bring oil from the Alberta tar sands to the Pacific coast, for export to Asia.
