Report shows success of infrastructure funding

The Canada Foundation for Innovation's investments in research infrastructure at universities created more than 1,600 jobs in 2014, according to the CFI's annual report.

Of those jobs, 1,179 were at the institution hosting the equipment. The rest were at companies, other academic institutions and not-for-profit organisations.

The infrastructure funded by the CFI was also instrumental in attracting researchers to Canadian institutions, the report says. Of the 217 newly recruited project leaders in the 2014 survey, 98 per cent reported that the availability of CFI infrastructure was an important factor in their decision to join the institution. A total of 55 per cent came from outside Canada, and slightly more than half of those were Canadians returning home.
