The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada has announced that it will no longer accept applications from research teams for its main Discovery Grants competition.
About 1 per cent of applications for Discovery Grants came from teams, but after an evaluation of the programme, NSERC has determined that team grants are not the "most effective way" of meeting the needs of researchers.
Starting with the 2016 grant competition, all applications must be made by individuals, but NSERC is encouraging applicants to continue to incorporate collaboration into their research programmes.
