James Moore, who as minister of industry had overall responsibility for science and innovation in Canada, has announced that he will not run for re-election in October.
Moore said he wanted to be able to spend more time with his family. His two-year-old son Spencer has been diagnosed with a rare bone disease and Moore said he had received some “difficult news” about the boy’s health.
Moore is the fifth cabinet minister to drop out of the next election, which is scheduled for 19 October.
