Ontario funds institute to promote stem cell R&D

Ontario has provided $3 million to create the Ontario Institute for Regenerative Medicine, which aims to support research and the commercialisation of stem cell therapies.

The institute is a partnership between the Ontario Stem Cell Initiative, a network of more than 145 stem cell and regenerative medicine programmes across the province, and the Centre for Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine, a consortium of academics, industry and entrepreneurs.

“Ontario is thrilled to support this collaborative initiative, which holds the promise to help treat, manage and cure some of the world’s most devastating diseases while offering significant economic benefits,” said Reza Moridi, the province’s minister of research and innovation.
