Lift-off for China’s Earth monitoring satellite

China launched the Ziyuan III remote sensor satellite for civilian use from the Taiyuan satellite launch centre in northern Shanxi province on 9 January.

The satellite weighs 2,650 kg and entered an orbit 500 kilometres above the Earth about 12 minutes after it was launched.
