China/Japan territorial dispute threatens scientific relations

A dispute between China and Japan over an island group in the East China Sea is putting a strain on scientific relations between the two countries.

According to China’s Xinhua news agency, the China Association for Science and Technology (Cast), an organisation that represents 160 professional societies, and the All-China Journalists Association issued statements on 15 September condemning Japan’s announcement of the purchase of the contested islands.
