China and Chile set up astronomy fund

China and Chile have established a $3-million (€2.2m) annual fund for joint training and research programmes in astronomy.

The fund will be available starting in 2014, and a China-Chile Joint Center for Astronomy will also be established in Santiago.

The agreement was signed by Chile’s national commission for scientific and technological research, Conicyt, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
