German and Chinese scientists team up for blue biotech

A Chinese-German joint centre for regenerative medicine and materials inspired by marine biology has been launched.

Plans are in place for the centre to operate for 10 years and focus on developing bone implants. Researchers will aim to adapt strategies from marine organisms such as sponges to develop bone replacement materials and drugs to treat osteoporosis.
