China plans two more Antarctic bases

China’s oceanic administration has confirmed that it will build two additional research bases on Antarctica, China’s national press agency Xinhua has reported.

China already has three bases on the continent. One new base would be used in the summer months, from December to March, to study geology, glaciology and atmospheric science. The second base would be active year-round and used for ecology research and remote sensing.
