China has joined the list of nations hosting spallation neutron source facilities for researchers, with the completion of a two-billion-yuan project in the southern Guangdong province.
The facility, the first of its kind in China and the second in Asia, opened on 25 March after a seven-year construction period, the state-run newspaper People’s Daily reported.
China announced its intention to build the facility in 2007 and has spent a total of 2.3 billion yuan ($265.5 million) on the project, according to media reports.
