Xi Jinping has relaxed rules hindering researchers in Hong Kong who wish to use research funding from the mainland.
The Chinese president has instructed government agencies to put in place measures that will bolster scientific and technological collaboration with Hong Kong, the state-owned news agency Xinhua reported on 14 May.
The decision comes after a series of calls from researchers in Hong Kong for more support from the government in Beijing.
