Israeli women win German grants

Germany’s Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has awarded grants to two researchers from Israel’s Hebrew University of Jerusalem to support their collaboration with German partners, Israel 21c reported.

The researchers are Michal Biran, a professor of East Asian studies, and Eva Illouz, a professor of sociology. Each will receive €250,000 to fund their work over five years.

Biran is working with researchers at Germany’s University of Bonn and is promoting collaboration between Germany, Israel and Mongolia to develop research on Eurasian history. At Frankfurt University, Illouz studies how modern culture and capitalism influence relationships.
