$AU2.5m gift for policy development centre

The Harold Mitchell Foundation has awarded AU$2.5 million to the Development Policy Centre at the Australian National University.

The centre, established in 2010, promotes research and discussion on issues such as aid effectiveness and economic development in the Pacific region.

The foundation funds programmes in health, education and the arts that can make a difference in Australia and the Asia-Pacific.

Harold Mitchell, the foundation’s founder, said the funding was given to support accountability and transparency in Australian’s development aid and will support research at the centre. The university said it will match the grant, bringing the total funding to AU$5m.
