Piri Sciascia ‘supported the arts and Māori participation in higher education over five decades’
New Zealand’s prime minister Jacinda Ardern has led tributes to Piri Sciascia, one of the country’s first Māori university vice-chancellors, who died on 18 January.
The 73-year-old arts academic (above left) was a cultural adviser to the NZ government and received the NZ Order of Merit in 2013 for his service to Māori arts.
