Bipartisan support in Congress expected to foil Trump’s latest attempt to axe federal humanities agency
Humanities researchers and organisations in the United States have put their faith in Congress to stop the main public funder of their work being closed down.
President Donald Trump proposed winding down the National Endowment for the Humanities in his budget request for fiscal year 2021, published earlier this month. The independent federal agency, whose 2020 budget was $162 million, provides funding for humanities research, education and preservation of cultural heritage.
