Animal rights groups petitioned European Parliament for a moratorium on animal use
The European Commission has reiterated its support for the responsible use of animals in scientific research, in a formal response to a petition submitted to the European Parliament by the animal rights group Peta.
“Contrary to the petitioners’ assertion that animal research is of limited value, it is a fact that animal studies have contributed significantly to improved health and quality of life as well as to longer life expectancy,” the Commission said on 8 June.
