Education system leaves students ‘dependent on instruction’

Traditional assessments do not prepare students for finding employment or overcoming challenges, says Melbourne report

Australia’s education system is not preparing students for the challenges of social interaction, ethical behaviour and finding jobs, according to a report by the University of Melbourne.

It says the system is producing students with a “dependence on instruction” who are taught to assess and solve problems “in a basic, formula-driven way”.
