New Zealand’s seven institutes need a better strategy and funding model ‘to meet national priorities’
The seven Crown Research Institutes in New Zealand need to cooperate better with each other and the wider science community, a high-level review has found. The 30-year-old CRI funding model also needs reform, according to the independent Te Pae Kahurangi Report to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
The review, which is now under consideration by the government, found that “fragmentation, overlapping activities and missed opportunities for sharing resources” were all issues for the CRI system.
