Research commissioner continues isolation and cancels her engagements after test result
Mariya Gabriel, the European commissioner for research, innovation and education, has announced that she has tested positive for Covid-19 and has cancelled her meetings for the week ahead.
“After a first negative Covid-19 test on Monday, my second one is positive,” Gabriel said on Twitter on 10 October. A European Commission spokesperson said the commissioner’s engagements for the week starting 12 October had been cancelled.
“I wish you a prompt recovery! Take good care of yourself,” said Gabriel’s boss, Commission president Ursula von der Leyen, in a tweet quoting Gabriel’s announcement.
Gabriel said on 5 October that a member of her cabinet had tested positive and that she herself would self-isolate as a precaution.
