France’s upper house adopts controversial policy but shortens its lifespan
The Senate, France’s upper house of parliament, approved the multi-annual research planning bill (LPPR) on 30 October, introducing several amendments in the process.
The amended bill passed the Senate with 249 approvals to 92 rejections. The LPPR, which has ignited angry responses from researchers, has the stated aim of increasing French spending while overhauling the system, introducing tenure tracks and project-bound academic posts.
