The spending review promised much on research but remained silent on the role of universities

The document containing details of yesterday’s 2020 spending review is 122 pages long and contains more than 45,000 words. It has more words than The Great Gatsby or The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The words ‘university’ and ‘universities’ do not appear. Nor does the term ‘higher education’.
