Publications boom linked to ‘flood’ of Covid research

            

UKRI’s 2020 grants saw associated publications jump by 30 per cent, reflecting wider Covid-19 trends

The number of publications by researchers awarded new funding from UK Research and Innovation increased by more than 30 per cent in 2020 compared with 2019, as awards jumped by almost a fifth during the pandemic, new data have revealed.

For the 3,544 awards that started in 2020, there were 4,689 publications, including 3,512 journal articles, 39 books, 91 book chapters and 1,047 ‘other’ publications, such as conference papers, policy briefings and edited books, the public R&D funder’s latest performance metrics show.
