Citing academic freedom, appeals court says historians need not apologise for claims in book
A Polish appeals court has overturned a decision that required two historians to apologise to a woman for allegedly defaming her deceased uncle in a book that accused him of complicity in the Nazi’s persecution of Jews in Poland.
The case has pitted proponents of academic and personal freedom against one another, and has major implications for the future of Holocaust studies in Poland.
