High donor dependency fails to translate to good performance across the board
A study measuring health research capacity across Africa paints a variable picture, with many countries performing well in some metrics and less well in others.
The authors, from London School of Economics in the United Kingdom, collected and aggregated data on health science research from all of Africa’s 54 countries. They considered countries’ health and R&D expenditure, as well as factors such as research income, clinical trial capabilities, publications and citations, and patents.
