Pressure on those working with animals in Europe is growing again
Since Galen performed dissections in Rome almost two thousand years ago, Europe has been a centre of learning through experimentation on animals. In 2018, more than 12 million were used for science in the EU, Norway and the UK.
But the long-running clash between activists opposed to animal research and those who use animals in their work has not gone away. Across the continent, political restrictions, activist pressure and even intimidation of researchers continues.
