Learned society sets out wish-list for R&D ahead of state opening of UK parliament
The Royal Society is urging the government to use its upcoming Queen’s speech to put forward a long-term plan for R&D, as it warned that “short-termism and stop-start investment” are inhibiting the UK’s scientific progress.
In a document published ahead of the state opening of parliament, the learned society said the government’s commitment to boost public investment in R&D to £22 billion a year by 2026-27 was “welcome” and would support progress in tackling challenges such as future pandemics and climate change.
