OfS report urges institutions to be wary of over-reliance on international students

The Office for Students has warned that although universities in England are well placed to overcome the fallout from the Covid pandemic, several risks could jeopardise the financial stability of some institutions.

According to its report, ‘Financial sustainability of higher education providers in England 2022’, published on 30 June, total annual sector income is forecast to grow from £37.31 billion last year to £45.72bn in 2024-25. Providers also forecast a reduction in external borrowing from £14.1bn to £13.78bn in the same period.
