Physicists lauded for taking up leading roles in global particle project
South African researchers have been lauded for taking up leading roles in a global particle physics project 10 years after the discovery of the Higgs boson at Cern, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research.
Edward Nkadimeng and Ryan Mckenzie (pictured) from the University of Witwatersrand were recognised by South African science and higher education minister Blade Nzimande last month for their roles in Atlas, the largest particle detector experiment underway at Cern’s Large Hadron Collider particle accelerator.
