Some policy experts say tax burden ‘isn’t the key thing holding back innovation’

Policy experts have raised questions over Rishi Sunak’s pledge to boost the UK economy through R&D tax credits as he vies to become the next UK prime minister.

During the Conservative Party leadership contest this summer, the former chancellor has repeatedly spoken about the importance of cutting taxes to incentivise businesses to invest in R&D and innovation.
