EU pushes skills upgrades to fill labour gaps and hit green targets

European Year of Skills to go ahead, with new framework planned for research careers

The EU has agreed to create a European Year of Skills, intended to help fill labour shortages, meet climate targets and improve working conditions for groups including researchers.

On 7 March, the Council of the EU member state governments announced that its negotiators had reached an agreement with the European Parliament on signing off the initiative proposed by the European Commission last year.
