Commission recommends Council extend long-running pact on R&D amid rising global competition for research power
The European Commission has proposed extending an agreement with the US on scientific cooperation, amid a battle to attract top research and development talent and boost self-reliance in politically sensitive fields.
The bilateral EU-US agreement, which entered into force in 1998 and has been extended four times, supports cooperation in areas including health, energy and oceans. It is currently set to expire in October.
