Agreement will see €3.3 billion for semiconductor R&D, partly drawn from Horizon Europe
The European Parliament and EU member state governments have reached a deal on legislation to boost Europe’s semiconductor industry, with MEPs talking up a focus on research and innovation.
The European Chips Act, proposed by the European Commission in February 2022, is meant to shore up EU competitiveness in semiconductors after shortages related to the Covid-19 pandemic underscored the bloc’s dependence on Asian countries for chip manufacture and the US for chip design.
