How a music researcher scooped a Turing Fellowship
Following up on Adam Golberg’s pair of articles in Funding Insight last month on encouraging better interdisciplinary research, we revisit this interview with Thomas Irvine, who is now head of music at the University of Southampton.
By his own admission, Irvine’s knowledge of artificial intelligence was no better than the average layperson’s when he first hit upon the idea that would ultimately see him clinch a Turing Institute Fellowship in 2019. As a result, conversations with researchers in disciplines far removed from his own were vital to his bid.
