Adjudicator tells universities to refund tuition fees over strike

The Office of the Independent Adjudicator has published three cases in which it asked universities to refund hundreds of pounds in tuition fees following a series of complaints over industrial action that took place in 2018.

The cases, published by the OIA on 22 February, address complaints lodged by students over last year’s strikes related to the Universities Superannuation Scheme, which saw staff across UK universities go on strike.

The OIA, which is the student complaints body for England and Wales, has published six case summaries of rulings made in relation to the strikes. The judgments of the independent complaints body may have implications for other universities.
