UK aims to produce advanced nuclear fuel

Up to £600 million also offered to build first commercially viable fusion prototype power plant

The UK government has announced it intends the UK to become the first country in Europe to produce advanced nuclear fuel, by building on related research.

It announced on 8 May that it is giving nuclear industry firm Urenco £196 million to build a uranium enrichment facility at Capenhurst in Cheshire, with the aim to produce fuel by 2031 for export or to use domestically.
