Research leaders condemn UK funding for global development as ‘inadequate’

Leaders bemoan “insufficient focus on long-term programmes” under new funding schemes

Prominent research leaders have criticised “inadequate” new government funding for international development research and described new schemes for delivering the money as “unclear”.

UK investment in overseas development has been in turmoil since 2020, when the government decided to reduce aid spending from 0.7 to 0.5 per cent of GDP.
